PSU looking for Film Instructor


Portland State University is currently hiring for a new position of Digital Film Production Instructor. The close-in Portland university founded to meet the education needs of returning World War II veterans is now one of the largest universities in Oregon. PSU has over 50 city blocks in its Portland campus, eight schools, 226 degree programs, over 29k students including 1,700 international students from 91 countries.

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The School of Theater and Film is committed to providing liberal arts based professional training that imaginatively balances theory and practice. Through classroom study, studio/laboratory preparation, field studies, and stage productions, students are challenged to pursue a commitment to individual excellence and collaboration, discover a passion for their discipline, and develop a firm grounding in the core components of live and mediated performance.

Students seeking professional careers, preparing for advanced degree programs, training to be educators, or pursuing interdisciplinary studies in the arts participate in contemporary production and critical studies practices encompassing new, modern, and classic works interpreted to confront and illuminate the diverse concerns of contemporary life. The Film Program is an interdisciplinary major housed in the School of Theatre and Film.

The Film Major is a comprehensive program that offers courses in film studies and in digital film production and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. Along with our academic setting, our students have the opportunity to engage with the dynamic and emerging film and media environments of Portland and the greater Pacific Northwest through internships and community partnerships maintained by the program.

Position Summary
A non-tenure track faculty appointment for individuals whose responsibilities are primarily devoted to academic instruction. Such appointments include teaching, advising, and mentoring expectations congruent with creative and engaged instruction. Normally, this appointment requires an advanced degree in the field of specialization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA
  • A minimum of three years university or college teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of a proven record of pedagogic innovation and teaching success
  • Experience in and/or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles are preferred
  • Evidence of professional creative practice in the areas of teaching emphasis
